...where bad hippies babble (endlessly) about knitting, kids, cats, men, books, and yeah...more knitting. Come for the humor, but stick around for the karmic insight.

Snow Day!

Remeber when you were a kid and your mom came in to tell you that it was a snow day and that there was no school? Remember how you burrowed back into your warm bed and were glad that you got to sleep in before waking up to cartoons and hot chocolate, followed by snowball fights and more cartoons?

Yeah, right. Only in June Cleaver's world.

Today my bleary-eyed Beavis wandered downstairs at 6:55 a.m., only to discover that the local schools (in all their mystifying widsom) had cancelled school. Did he go back to bed and relax? No, not my Beavis. He proceeded to jump around the family room and scare the cats, then he jumped some more.

I had to leave him home alone for a bit so that I could get some stuff done at work AND update my blog, naturally. The minute I left the house, I heard the volume on the stereo shoot up to 11 and saw him dash upstairs with the cordless phone. He already had called his buddies (at 8:30 a.m., for goddess' sake) to organize a sledding party when I get home to supervise the chaos and field phone calls from the local hospital, so I can only imagine that they've decided to stay on the phone with each other to discuss the finer points of morning cartoons, soccer, and the Beatles. Pre-teens are sooooooo weird. Especially the ones I know.

Sigh. Snow days used to be fun. Then I became a mom, and the very mention of a snow day sent me running for the hills. Bummer. We can only hope they decide to reopen school and continue edu-micating the heathens tomorrow. Maybe I can at least cram some knitting into my day...in between the hat-finding and the chauffering and the mitten-drying, of course.
